Another Post Deferred

What’s with all these committee meetings going into the late-afternoon and evening? It’s supposed to be lickety-split, a couple hours, I get the vibe of the room and I’m home to write it up. Instead it’s like all day affairs as if people don’t have other things on their plate.

Not to mention afternoon baseball this week. By the time the game’s over, I’m sedated on the couch, stuffed full of nachos, chicken wings and Nyquil & ginger. Yes it is a thing.

How do the councillors get other stuff done?

More to the point, how do City Hall reporters do it, attending these meetings and writing about them?

How do you do it, Daniel Dale of the Star, Hamutal Dotan of Torontoist, Don Peat of the Sun, Ben Spurr of NOW, to name just a few. You people aren’t human. You are machines!

So I’m two behind already with Planning and Growth Committee today. Let’s hope it’s a short one so I can do a little catching up.

This is a grind, man.

    Maybe it is your diet?

    It can affect body, brain and the ability to filter through to the things that should matter to you.

    TD Economics long-term economic assessment of the Toronto region. Considerations for future action –

    • Priority setting critical;
    • Discussion should be regional in focus, not municipal;
    • Best approaches tackle multiple economic/social
    objectives;
    • Policies should be looked at through a productivity/
    efficiency lens;
    • Avoid measures that create large unintended consequences;
    • Reap the benefits of strong collaboration and involvement
    of the private sector;
    • Recognize that the competition does not stand still.

    All solid stuff but none of it stands a bloody chance if it requires the support of the Toronto Circus. That lot never thinks outside their own parish!

    Anybody notice what the clowns did on the Billy Bishop Airport item at last Circus Meeting? Carroll held it down only to release it without debate and consideration of the Staff Recommendations.

    Some of these clowns are a total waste of space! Every bit as bad as those who pander to populism. They’re destroying any vestige of democracy left in TO’s municipal affairs.

  4. Sonny says:

    Porter agreed not to use JETS and now are supposedly ordering them. The bridge to the island airport failed and so will this addition to the landing strip because the waterfront is for the people rather than an evil corporation…

    P.S. didn’t you prefer Tory over Miller & Stintz over Johnston in 03?

  5. Patrick Smyth says:

    Hey, the clowns on my community council agreed to Affordable Housing but then reversed 10 days later when Stintz figured it was no longer a good idea. Things change at the Circus. Things change in life. As indeed, I believe, they will with respect to Porter on the island. The downtown NIMBYS will be told the facts of life.

    I voted for Barbara Hall in 2003 and HiMY SYeD in 2010. I worked to elect Stintz in 2003 & 2006. (paid dearly for it) When she first got notions in 2007 way beyond her station in life, she turned her back on the community and we parted company.

    She doesn’t like constituents who don’t fawn over her. So many are shallow like that.

    Who did you vote for?
