He actually managed to flank Rossi on the Left on bike lanes, believe it or not. Ford has no problem with bike lanes in the centre of the city, where the largest number of people actually cycle. He doesn’t want bike lanes in the suburbs, where he says his constituents don’t want them. That puts him to the left of Rossi, whose stance would preclude (effective) bike lanes anywhere.

Dear Bob,

We here at All Fired Up in the Big Smoke have a terrible, terrible track record when it comes to predicting election outcomes, having haughtily (and gleefully) dismissed the likes of Mike Harris, Mel Lastman and George W. Bush, twice. So we hesitate in handicapping the likes of Rob Ford in 2010. We have high hopes the man will be electorally embarrassed but aren’t planning the victory party just yet. As our post today said, there’s a lot of anger out there for him to exploit, so anything is possible.
